Dear Colleagues and Friends:

Following a distinguished career in the Florida State University Department of Statistics, Professor Doug Zahn will retire from the Florida State University in April 2005.

The Celebration
On Saturday, April 23, the Department of Statistics will host Doug Zahn Day in recognition of his professional accomplishments and in deep appreciation of his contributions. Your presence at this activity will be greatly appreciated.

The Man
Doug has pioneered a truly unique consulting program that focuses on enhancing interpersonal skills and incorporates feedback through video taping which aids students in becoming much more effective professionals. Doug has taught courses on consulting to groups of United Kingdom government statisticians and other professionals for nearly a decade. In 1993, he hadwas honored ofby being named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. He won a Teaching Incentive Program Award in 1994 and a University Teaching Award in the 1998-1999 school year. Participating as an invited speaker or presenting a contributed paper/panel/poster session in all but one Joint Statistical Meeting of the ASA since 1971, Doug’s contributions are certainly to be celebrated!

The Event
The festivities will consist of reminiscences by invited friends and colleagues including Duane Meter, Ruth Ann Killian, Brad Jones, Heather Smith, Karen Kinard, Donna Crowley, and Rob Fowler plus other special surprises. The activitiesy will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 at the Radisson Hotel Tallahassee. Continental breakfast fare will be available at 8:30 a.m., and rSRefreshments will be availableat break timesbefore and during breaksa morning break. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. (iInformation on the program, luncheon cost, and hotel reservations is attached.).

Contributions Requested
We would like to present Doug with a collection of remembrances, well wishes, and appreciation from his former and current colleagues, family, and friends. We plan on compiling these remembrances to present to Doug on April 23. If you are interested in contributing your thoughts, feelings, and memories about our honoree, we would like to have you submit one or more of the following:

1. record aA brief, recorded personal video message. expressing your thoughts and feelings about our honoree. (If tapes are submitted, they need to be in VHS or mini DV format.)
2. We will also welcome lettersA letter (unfolded) of appreciation you wish to share.
3. A short note (unfolded) containing a fond memory, or
4. A copy of a photo, past or present.

We then plan on to compileing these recordings and letters contributions to and present them to Doug on April 23. Please send contributed video recordings (tapes need to be in VHS or mini DV format) and letters (unfolded) writtenthem by April 1, 2005 to:
